Obituary:
Bruce H. BRIGGS, born February 19, 1859, in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, passed away October 10, 1947, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Hadessa Plinston, Springville, New York. Services were conducted in Smith's Funeral Home by the Rev. Leo A. Gates, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, and at the Maplewood Cemetery by the Springville Lodge No. 351, F. & A. M. Mr. Briggs retired March 1, 1929 from the Engineering Department of Buffalo, Rochester & Pittsburg Railway Company after continuous service in the maintenance of way div. since August 21, 1885. He entered their service as section foreman at Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, moved later to Big Run, DuBois, and Mr. Jewett, Pennsylvania. On June 1, 1911, he came to Springville as Roadmaster to succeed the late Henry Ware who was retiring. Since his retirement, Mr. Briggs has spent his winters at the Y.M.C.A., St. Petersburg, Florida. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Springville, New York, Eulalia Lodge No. 342 F. & A. M., Coudersport, Pennsylvania, Mahoning Lodge No. 924, I.O.O.F. and Castle Hall of Big Run Lodge No. 47, K. of P., Big Run, Pennsylvania, also a life member International Railway Association, and Three Quarter Century Club, St. Petersburg, Florida. Mr. Briggs, husband of the late Margaret Emily, is survived by a son and two daughters, Mrs. Hadessa L. Plinston, Springville, William H., Buffalo, and Mrs. Isabelle B. MacDonald, Springville. Relatives attending the funeral services were: Miss Gertrude A. Briggs, Chicago, Illinois, and St. Petersburg, Florida; Mr. and Mrs. Glen Hale, Akron, Ohio; Mr. and Mrs. E.J. Hall, Brockway, Pennsylvania; Mrs. William Faust, Mt. Union, Pennsylvania; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Edelblute, Mrs. Lillian Gerlock, Huntingdon, Pennsylvania; Mrs. Edna Brandt, Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.
