Clara was the daughter of George W. Corey and his second wife, Narcissa Mitchell. She married Clarence E. HOY on 27 October 1871 in Macomb County, Michigan. Clara was the mother of Anna Blanche HOY and Florence Inez SPEAKE.
The 1900 US Census gives that she was born in April 1852, but her marker, as shown here, gives the year 1853. Clara's death certificate also lists that she was born in 1853, and the daughter of Harris Mitchell, who was actually her grandfather.
Clara's older half-brother, Lorenzo Corey, also lived in Alabama for a time. A wealthy lumberman from Michigan, his investments in Alabama were unprofitable. He returned to Michigan, then resettled in Toledo, Ohio.
