Emily Jane was the daughter of John and Jane "York" Mordecai. On April 26, 1859, she married (1) John Henry Jackson, I, the son of William D. and Nancy C. "Harris" Jackson. John Henry enlisted in the CSA on 3 May 1862 and served in Co. F, 38th AL Infantry. He contracted some fatal illness, probably as early as Feb 1864 while he was attached and serving as a nurse in Catoosa Hospital at Griffin, GA. He died in the Braggo Hospital in Americus, GA of natural causes on October 15, 1864. He is buried in the Confederate Cemetery, "Oak Grove Cemetery" at Americus, Sumter Co., GA. Emily and John Henry had one child, a son, William Wesley "Will" Jackson, born March 13, 1860 in Millport, AL. After his mother, Emily's, second marriage, William Wesley never lived with her, but was raised by Emily's parents, John and Jane Mordecai.
Emily was a young Civil War widow when she married (2) Daniel L. Cook, 16 years her senior on 28 Jul 1866. It is believed that Daniel was a widower with children of his own when they married. Emily Jane and Daniel became the parents of 9 children.
