Death Came this Morning for Prominent Countian
Services for Mrs. Margaret Craddock Locke,
long-time countian who died early this morning
at Columbus Hospital, will be held at 2 p.m.
tomorrow at Gunter Funeral Home Chapel.
The Rev. C. L. Rogers will conduct the rites.
Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery.
Mrs. Locke, who was 83, was one of the oldest
and best-known citizens of the New Hope
community. Born in Atlanta, GA to the late
Jack Craddock and Mrs. Margaret Ferguson
Craddock, she moved with them at an early age
to Lowndes County, the neighborhood in which she
lived all her married life.
She was the widow of Ray Locke, store owner-
operator.
Mrs. Locke was a life-long devout member of
Murrah's Chapel Methodist Church and one of the
church's oldest affiliates.
She leaves three sons and three daughters, six
grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Immediaite survivors include:
James Ray Locke, Jr., Holt, Ala, Thomas Locke, Rt. 4,
and Richard M. Locke, Clarksdale, Mrs. E. O. Owens,
Atlanta, Ga., Mrs. Fred Ashford, Courtland, Ala., and
Mrs. B. W. Ice, of Rt. 4, with whom she lived. Numbered
among her granddaughters is one Columbia, Mrs. W. R.
Nation, Jr.
Pallbearers will be Kirby Spurlock, William Boyd, Henry
Lee Davis, F. M. Vaugham, G. W. Reid, and P. W. Brewer.
Servicing on the flower committee will be Mrs. Kirby Spurlock,
Mrs. Ralph Carter, Mrs. W. W. Swedenburg, Mrs. William
Boyd, Mrs. Lillian Davis Berry, Mrs. F. M. Vaughan, Mrs.
Charles Sobley, Mrs. Leala Collins, and Miss Fannie Golden.
