Tilford Bjornstad was the 4th child and youngest son of Kristian and Olina (Quanrud) Bjornstad. He grew up on several family farms around Inkster ND. After finishing high school, he helped his father with farming until his death in 1939. On June 15, 1945, he married Thelma Marie Downs at the Methodist Church in Clyde, ND and bought acreage a few miles west of Inkster ND, on which he built a house and farmed until he retired and moved to Turtle Lake ND to be near his youngest daughter. There were two children born to this union: Nancy Bjornstad Erickson (born 1946) and Karen Bjornstad Aafedt (born 1949). His wife died in 1992 and is also buried at Inkster Cemetery.
