Ernest Alexander
He and Marguerite met in California. She and a girlfriend had gone downtown to catch a ride home, and Dave was sitting in a car with his brother. They met later at a dance, and two months later they were engaged. Dave was 18 and Marguerite was 16. Dave was working at his father's store. Later, Dave worked on a ranch owned by Metro Goldwyn Mayer. In 1942, they moved to Miami.

From $3 a day, he worked his way to $6.92 a day, working for the mines. Their first home was small. By the time they had 8 children, they built a home across the street, with help from friends, family and the neighborhood, finishing in nine months. They eventually had 10 children, adopting two.

Dave was also with the Sheriff's Reserve program, and was active in the unions.
