He was born in Columbus, Ohio, on August 13, 1948, the son of Eileen Louise (Sharp) Bond of Westerville, and the late Evart Clarence Bond.
A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Steve served his country during the Vietnam War for over four years and was stationed around nearly three quarters of the world. Later in life, he became a member of the Am Vets Post 87 and was a faithful member of the Color Guard paying tribute to the veterans of Morrow County.
On April 3, 1971, Steven married his loving wife of over 35 years, Angela Marie (Columbro) Bond, at the North United Methodist Church in Columbus. Together they lived in Columbus until December of 1990 when they moved to Fredericktown.
Steve worked as a freight conductor on the railroad for over 35 years. He was the last person hired by the Pennsylvania Railroad Company, and finished his career with CSX Railroad Company retiring in 2001. He was a member of the United Transportation Union.
Through his health struggles, Steve remained optimistic and continued to fight through every obstacle. Steve developed a strong belief in the power of prayer and is very thankful for all of the prayers given to him and his family. Steve was a member of the Chesterville United Methodist Church, and is glad he finally gets to sing in the choir.
Steve enjoyed riding his Harley's and Triumphs, reading Steven King novels, swimming, fishing, and watching his football teams: the Buckeyes, Bengals, and Colts.
Steve lived for his family, cherishing all family gatherings and vacations, and he loved his basset hound "Daisy." They all will miss him dearly.
In addition to his mother and wife, Steve will be missed by his son Victor (Shelley) Bond of Columbus; daughter Amy (Rocky) Caskey of Galion; two grandchildren Kristen Muffley and Tyler Steven Bond and one on the way; three brothers Dick (Donalda) Bond of Colorado, Bobby (Mary) Bond of Lakewood, and Tony (Brenda) Bond of Ostrander; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
He was preceded in death by his brother Michael David Bond.
The family will greet friends on Tuesday from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Home, 76 South Main Street, Mount Gilead. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Chesterville United Methodist Church, 115 E. Sandusky St., Chesterville, with Pastor Jeannie Winters officiating.
