She owned a beauty salon. She and Jack were childless. Eugenia Pixley Abraham, "Jean," was b. in Woodsdale, NC, USA, the Dau. of Luther Garland Pixley of Roxboro, Person, NC, USA, and Mary Conro of South Hero, VT, USA. She lived in Milton, NC, USA, to the ae. of 11 when she moved back to South Hero. In South Hero, VT, USA, she attended elementary and middle schools, and she graduated from high school at the South Lancaster (Christian) Academy in Leominster, MA, USA. She attended the Catherine Gadhu Beauty School in Burlington, Chittenden, VT, USA, and in 1934 graduated from the Wilfred Academy of Hairdressing in Boston, Suffolk, MA, USA. She moved to Rutland and worked briefly at the Hollywood Beauty Shop bef. opening her own beauty salon in 1935. She owned and operated Jean's Beauty Salon on Merchants Row in Rutland until her retirement in 1982. During that time she made frequent trips to NY City to attend classes and conventions, taking great pride in maintaining the highest standards of fashion. Mrs. Abraham served six years on the VT State Board of Cosmetology and served as the president of the local association for two years. She was m. to Jack W. Abraham and they lived on Edgerton St. in Rutland until his Death in 1962. She eventually moved to Foster Place and lived there until her Death with her longtime companion, William Brown. She treated all people with respect and loved all animals, often making pets of crows, squirrels, skunks and feral cats. She is survived by her "fireside companion," William Brown; a Nephew, Stephen Pixley of Hartland, VT, USA; a Niece, Carole (Pixley) Walker, and sister-in-law, Katherine Pixley, both of Colorado; three Great-Nephews and her pet cat, Nipper. Her wonderful and unique spirit will be missed greatly by the many people and animals in her life. Visiting hours will be held Friday, 10 Jun from 5:00 to 6:30 PM at Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland with an informal memorial service at 6:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Rutland Co. Humane Soc., PO Box 558, Pittsford, VT, USA 05763. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks for the kind and caring support she received from so many people in her later years, which enabled her to remain at her home until her Death.
