Herbert Clark Gerald was the 2nd child and second son of Orrin F. and Rose Ellen (Gerald) Gerald. He was born on the family farm in Township #2, Penobscot, Maine and lived there his entire life. Herbert never married.
The US Federal Census reports show how Herbert remained in Township #2/Stacyville.
1880 - Herbert is living with his parents and brother David and sister Alice. The family is living next to his maternal Grandparents farm.
1900 - Herbert is living with his parents and six siblings on the farm on Grindstone Rd.
1910 - With the death of his father in 1903 and his elder brother David in 1909, Herbert is now considered the head of the family and running the family farm. His mother Rose, three brothers (Hiram, Nathaniel and George) and sister (Ethel), along with his sister Alice's two children (niece Effie Gerald and nephew Pearlie Keddrel) are living on the farm with him. Also listed is his Uncle Hiram R. Gerald and a boarder, James G. Boone, who is helping run the farm.
1920 - His mother passed away in 1919, leaving Herbert as the true head of the family. Living with him on this census are his brother Nathaniel and his sister Alice, her husband Albert and their three children. Living on the farm next door is his sister Ethel, brother-in-law, Simond and their son Alton Boone. Simond is the younger brother of James Boone, who was the boarder listed on the 1910 Census.
1930 & 1940 - Both of these censuses list Herbert as the head of the family. Living with him are his brother George and George's wife Lavinia (also known as Winnie).

Herbert passed away at the age of 73 on 08 Nov 1949. He was buried near his brothers and sisters in Sherman Cemetery #1.
