Son of Hiram Browne and Caroline DawsonBorn about 1609 (aged 26 in 1635). Fisherman who came to Massachusetts Bay in 1635 on the "Love," & settled in Salem MA. Died in Salem 20 Jan 1687/8, aged 79 (Salem gravestone). "Today [Sunday, 22 Jan 1687/, I hear that Mr. Brown of Salem, the father, dyed on Friday last in the afternoon." (This was written while Salem was under seige by the measles, but there is no indication that measles carried off William Brown.)
Married (1) by 1635, Mary ____. She was born about 1609 (aged 26 in 1635). She probably died between 25 Dec 1637 (grant of land based on household of 2) & late 1638 (when Brown's first known child was conceived).
(2) by 1639, Sarah Smith, daughter of Samuel Smith of Wenham (in his will of 5 Oct 1642, Samuel Smith bequeathed 50 pounds to "my son William Browne" & to "his two children William & John Browne [pounds] 50 between them." Sarah predeceased William, who requested in his will to be buried next to her.
