Elizabeth Crouch, daughter of David and Rachel Bales, was born in Jannings co., IN, 9 Mar 1847, and departed this life at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harry Barker, 26 Aug 1913, aged 66y 5m 15d.
When she was one year old her parents came to Davis Co., where most of her life was spent. She belonged to a family of eight children, one dying in infancy. Of those grown to maturity, she was the second to be called home, her brother Hamilton Bales, having preceded her.
Of her near relatives, she leaves behind one daughter and son-in-law, M & M Harry Barker of Union Twp, four grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Sarah Goder (Yoder) of Eddieville, IA, and four brothers, Moses of Ottumwa, Jacob, Solomon and Levi of Davis Co.
In Sept 1883, she became a member of the Mt. Gilead Christian church under the ministry of D.W. Hastings. She died in the triumph of a living faith, or she expressed it shortly before her death, 'Leaning on Jesus'.
Funeral services were conducted by D.W. Hastings, at the Chequest M.E. church, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Rouch cem.
