Homer C. Appleby, 59, of 403 1/2 West Second street, died at 10:35 a.m. Sunday in Mercy hospital following a two-and-one-half year's illness. Born in Hopkinton, Ia., Nov 17, 1892, he attened school there and moved to Davenport at the age of 16. He married Edith Denning, Nov. 22, 1920 in Peoria. At the time of his death, Mr. Appleby was employed at Rock Island arsenal where he had worked for the last three years. Prior to that he had worked for the Mueller Lumber Co. for 17 years. A veteran of World War 1, he was a member of DAV veterans.

Survivors include his widow; five daughters, Shirley, at home; Mrs. LeRoy Scheel, Mrs. James Kent and Mrs. Keith Downing, all of Davenport; and Mrs. Janck Johnson, Rockford; four sons, Homer, La Verne and James, all if Davenport and Louis, of Moline; two brothers, Fred, Manchester, Ia and Charles, Monticello, Ia., and two sisters, Mrs. Addie Wolfe, Manchester, and Mrs. Charles Coats, Ceder Rapids: 18 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. in Runge chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park, Davenport
