Lavern Appleby 07/08/1998 DAVENPORT -- Lavern E. Appleby, of Davenport, died Tuesday, July 7, 1998, at his home. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Runge Mortuary, Davenport. Burial will be in Long Grove (Iowa) Cemetery. Visitation is 5-8:30 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary, with Masonic services at 7:30 p.m. Mr. Appleby retired in 1962 as a machinist at Rock Island Arsenal. He was born Oct. 10, 1920, in Bettendorf. He married Ruthestelle Andrews in 1946 in Davenport. She died in 1992. He married Sadie Lueders in 1993 in Long Grove. During World War II, he served in the Navy. Memorials may be made to Genesis Hospice. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Verna Appleby, Solon, Iowa; sons, Gene Lueders, Hamilton, Mont., and Dale Lueders, Fiddle Town, Calif.; numerous grandchildren; and a sister, Nadine Boege, Eldridge, Iowa.
