Jewel Mae (Sanders) Appleby passed away Thursday, March 29, 2001, in Davenport, Iowa. Jewel was born July 8, 1924, in Bettendorf, Iowa, the daughter of Cleo Geneva (Sanders).
She was raised by her grandmother, Elizabeth Candice (Moore) Sanders; and also since she was a one year old infant by her mother, Cleo and step-father, Ralph Frederick Hendricksen.
She married Homer Louis Appleby on January 22, 1946, in Davenport, Iowa. He passed away on April 11, 1993.
She worked several years in the assembly department at Brammer Manufacturing.
Jewel enjoyed fishing, puzzles, bingo, going to the riverboats, spending time outdoors, observing nature and camping. She will always be remembered for her Sunday dinners in which everyone came to. Her greatest achievement was raising her nine children.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Louis Appleby, in 1993; her mother, Cleo Geneva (Sanders) in 1990; grandmother, Elizabeth Candice (Moore) Sanders in 1975; step-father, Ralph Frederick Hendricksen in 1979; and a grandson, Brian.
Jewel is survived by her three daughters, Betty Jean Dulaney of Davenport, IA; Peggy Arnie Waldron of LeClaire, IA; and Cleo Smith of West Liberty, IA; and her six sons: Ralph Homer Appleby of Milan, IL; Robert, Jerry, and Homer Appleby all of Davenport, IA; Jim Appleby of Glendale, AZ; and Terry Appleby of Long Grove, IA; her six half-sisters; her five half-brothers; 18 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
