April 29, 1935 = Mason City Globe - The last Civil war veteran of Armstrong has sold his property here and is making his home with his daughter, Mrs. Edith Fredericks, in Sioux Falls, S. Dakota. He is Thomas Goodge, 86, in good health. He visited his grandson and friends here last November. His wife died April 10, 1933 and five children have preceded him in death.
The children living are Mrs. Cora Patterson of Reiner, Minn.; Mrs. Edith Fredericks of Sioux Falls, S. Dakota; Mrs. Margie Alexander of Lincoln, Nebr.; Harry Goodge of Rochester, Minn.; and Robert Goodge of Mankato, Minn.
Mr. Goodge at the close of the Civil War was 17 years old. He enlisted in the regular army and continued in the service on the Mexican border until 1868 when he received his honorable discharge. After his discharge he settled in Iowa and for 30 years was a resident of Armstrong.
