Sylvia May of Sioux Falls. SD, daughter of Daniel and Bena Meyer, passed away at Good Samaritan Luther Manor on Monday, September 20, 2010. Sylvia Margaret Meyer was born June 7, 1917 in Chancellor. South Dakota. After her schooling was completed, she worked as a babysitter/housekeeper and then later was employed at a bakery in Sioux Falls. She was united in marriage to George May on March 14, 1937. They made their home on their farm south of Sioux Falls until March, 1967 at which time they moved to their 37th Street home in Sioux Falls. Later Syl once again worked as a housekeeper, this time for over 30 years. She retired at the age of 80.

Sylvia was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Sioux Falls since 1943, and was active in Women's Circle activities for many years. She was also a member of Extension Club and the neighborhood KYN (Know Your Neighbor) Club. She developed many wonderful life long friendships with members of these organizations. Sylvia also enjoyed her many years as leader of the Lincoln County Springdale Juniorettes 4-H Club, and was a very dedicated supporter of her daughters' activities within the Harrisburg School District.

Grateful for having shared her love and life along with her late husband George, are her two daughters, Barbara (David Lynn) Paine, of Anamosa, IA, and Mary Hausman-May of Mesa, AZ. "Grandma Syl" will be fondly remembered by her grandchildren: Stephenie (Scott) Saunders, Creve Coeur, MO, Rene' (Adam) Burke, Solon, IA, Daniel (Michelle) Paine, Big Fork MT, Kate Hausman, Phoenix, AZ, Mike (JoLynn) Hausman, Sioux Falls, SD, Cindy (Chris) Pelech, Hiawassee GA. Jennifer (Keith) Duster, Solon, IA and by her 14 greatgrandchildren.

Sylvia is survived by her brother Roger (Di) Meyer of Sioux Falls, her sister Marcene (Dave) Walker of Denver, CO, her sister-in-law Lillian (Amos) Meyer of Sioux Falls, SD along with many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband George May, parents Daniel E. Meyer and Bena Stratmeyer Meyer, brothers Elmer Meyer and Amos Meyer, sisters Gladys Meyer and Theda Meyer Ritter, and many of her dear and close friends
