Marlowe DePauw Sr., 90, Sioux Falls, S.D., died Monday, May 23, 2011, at Avera Prince of Peace Nursing Home in Sioux Falls.

A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 26, at George Boom Funeral Home in Sioux Falls. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Sioux Falls.

Marlowe L. DePauw Sr. was born Jan. 15, 1921, to Henry and Minnie (Welvert) DePauw on a farm near Hardwick. He grew up, farmed with his father and received his education in that area.

On Sept. 5, 1941, he married Hilda Koens in Adrian. He continued to farm until entering the U.S. Army in 1942. He served in England, Scotland, France, Belgium and Austria during World War II. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and participated in the landing at Omaha Beach. Following his honorable discharge in 1945, the couple lived in Luverne. He worked at Luverne Lumber and A.R. Woods. In 1953 he began work at John Morrell and Company. The couple moved to Sioux Falls in 1955. He retired from John Morrell in September 1982.

He was a life member of the VFW and the DAV and a former member of U.F.C.W. Local 304A. He enjoyed fishing, bowling and traveling to visit family and friends in California, Hawaii, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Texas.

Mr. DePauw is survived by three sons, Marlowe (Diane) DePauw Jr., Pierre, S.D., Roger (Sharon) DePauw, New Port Richey, Fla., and Steve (Teresa) DePauw, Waverly, S.D.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Marvin DePauw, Chico, Calif., and Lorain (Audrey) DePauw, Luverne.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Hilda DePauw, on March 6, 2009; two brothers, William and Albert DePauw; and three sisters, Gertrude Dohlman, Emma Verdick and Lucille DePauw.
