Edna Biesheuvel, 75, died early Saturday morning, July 16, 2011 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls.

Edna Ella Serr was born on May 4, 1936 on a farm near Delmont, SD, the daughter of Theophil G. and Catherine (Fink) Serr. She grew up there, attended public school and graduated from Delmont High School.

On January 8, 1953 Edna was united in marriage to Merlin Biesheuvel at Delmont.

Following their marriage they lived in Wisconsin and moved to Mitchell in 1961, where she did secretarial work. In 1967 they moved to Sioux Falls and she taught private piano lessons and worked for New York Life Insurance Co. In 1969 she became a medical transcriptionist for Internal Medicine Clinic at Sioux Valley Hospital until her retirement in 2006. After retirement she continued working as an independent transcriptionist and a hostess at Hy-Vee.

Edna was a member of First Reformed Church in Sioux Falls, where she taught Sunday School, was a youth group leader, played piano, was a member of R.C.W. and participated in the choir, bell choir and quilting group.

Edna and Merlin enjoyed taking bus tours of sites around the country. While at home, she took great pride in the flowers around the house. She also enjoyed trying new recipes and riding bicycle around Sioux Falls. Her real passions were being active in the church and being with people. She was a cherished friend to many.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister in infancy and a brother, Carl Serr.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Merlin; her son and daughter-in-law: David and Leanne Biesheuvel of Georgetown, Texas; one daughter and son-in-law: Debbie and Kent Herrboldt of Lennox; five grandchildren:Carmen (Mike) Law, Leslie (Eric) Varnon, Bradley (Dana) Biesheuvel, Jason Herrboldt and Jessica Herrboldt; five great-grandsons; her brother: Leon (Jean) Serr of Sun City West, Arizona and sister-in-law, Marion Serr of Sioux Falls; plus her nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services will begin at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 19 at First Reformed Church, 4800 S. Tomar Rd, Sioux Falls, SD with burial to follow at Hills of Rest memorial park, Sioux Falls.
