Family stories have it that Susan was born in Utah, en route to California in a wagon train with her family. They had to leave the wagon train and find a doctor, which turned out to be the head Mormon. I'm not sure when she got back to Texas, but the 1860 census shows her family in Dallas, Texas. She was the eldest child of 9 children.
The 1880 Census shows living in Williamson County (probably Liberty Hill).

She and William Alexander "Alex" were farmers in Coppras Cove, Coryell County, Texas.
