SOUTHPORT – Mr. John W. "Jack" Wadsworth 73, of 421 Charlestown Road (BSL), died on April 12, 2001. Mr. Wadsworth was born March 27, 1928 in Charlotte, NC. He graduated from Derita High School in Charlotte, and attended North Carolina State University. During the Korean War he served in the United States Air Force, and subsequently in the Air National Guard. He was in the industrial battery and charger business for a number of years, and retired from Blackhawk Hardware Store in Charlotte.
Surviving is his wife of over 46 years, Bertie Oliver Wadsworth; two sons, John David Wadsworth and William J. "Bill" Wadsworth, both of Charlotte; one daughter, Angela L. Wadsworth of Lexington, KY; one brother, Jerry Wadsworth of Charlotte; three grandchildren, Amy, Allison and Justin Wadsworth; and a cousin, Linda LaPorta of Southport. Mr. Wadsworth was preceded in death by a daughter, Marianne Wadsworth.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Southport, with Reverend Bill Cottingham officiating. Family will receive friends at the church following the service. Graveside service will take place on Monday at 1:30 p.m. at Forest Lawn West Cemetery in Charlotte, with visitation following the service at the home of Jerry Wadsworth, 5300 Sardis Road, Charlotte.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 725-A Wellington Ave., Wilmington, NC 28401 or Trinity United Methodist Church, 209 East Nash Street, Southport, NC 28461.
