Arthur Ferdinand Kussman was born on August 25, 1886, in Wisconsin, to Ferdinand H. Kussman and Johanna Otto. At some point, Art lived in Green Bay, Wisconsin. He married Frances Christina Mohelnitzky on May 2, 1917, at St. Vibiana Cathedral in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California. Art was in the oil business and worked for Standard Oil. During the Depression in the 1920s, things went bad for everyone and he went broke. Art was a carpenter and worked on the movie sets in which his wife, Frances, acted (about 1940) in California. In March 1953, they lived in Hollywood, California. He was a Freemason (a group with a religious nature, but not considered a religion). His wife, Frances Mohelnitzky, always prayed that he would become Catholic, but it wasn't until after her death in 1968 that Art joined the Catholic religion. (Source: Interview with Frank J. Braun on July 19, 1992). They had one daughter, Bernice who married Alfred Taaff.
