FUNERAL OF WILSON MERWIN.
The funeral of Wilson M. Merwin, 74, who died Friday at his home, 722 East street, after a three days' sickness with pneumonia, was held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in the First Christian church. The services were conducted by the Rev. D. S. Cross, pastor of the church, and the pallbearers were Mr. Merwin's six sons. Interment was made in the Maplewood cemetery.
Wilson Monroe Merwin was born January 2, 1844, in Monroe county, Pa, and came to Emporia in 1883. Mr. Merwin was first married in 1879 to Miss Martha Blowers, at Altoona, Pa. Mr. and Mrs. Merwin came to Kansas in 1879 and were the parents of seven children, three of whom survive. They are: George and James Merwin, of Emporia, and Mrs. Anna Rosche, of St. Louis. Mrs. Merwin died April 5, 1882.
Mr. Merwin was married the second time to Mary Emma Power, who survives, as do the following children: A. W. Merwin, Argentine; William L. Merwin, Kansas City, Mo.; R. E. Merwin and L. E. Merwin, of Emporia; Mrs. J. F. Classon (sic), of Kansas City, Kan., and Mrs. Rose Kean, who lived at the home. Mr. Merwin is also survived by 21 grandchildren.
Out-of-town persons who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Robert Power, of Machely, Mo.; Joseph Power, Hays; Mrs. Mattie Bucher, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Disselhof, Mrs. Loretta Eckerly, and Clyde Oakes, all of Kansas City, Mo.
