Ethelyn Katherine Brashers, 97, Payette, passed away Monday July 10, 2006 at Pioneer Place Nursing Home and Rehabilitation in Vale, Oregon. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday July 14, 2006 at Dry Creek Cemetery near Eagle, Idaho(Boise Idaho).

Ethelyn and her twin sister Evelyn were born June 12, 1909 near Boise. Her twin passed away at three months. Ethelyn later moved with her parents and other siblings to their homestead north of Boise,Idaho (now the Ourada Ranch). She attended grade school at a country school near her home (Stack Rock School- high school Boise High) and later attended NNU in Nampa, Idaho.

She met her future husband Sidney Brashears when her father hired him to work on the ranch. They were married March 11, 1928. They had two daughters, Betty Jean and Bernice Kathleen. After working in the Boise area, Sid began a career in the water business, first working at Lake Lowell, then accepting a job with the Owyhee Irrigation District in 1937, delivering the first water to the farmers. They continued with their work, later moving to Sunnyside Dam in Washington where they retired in 1967. They returned to Idaho to be near their daughters.

Ethelyn was a self-taught musician entertaining friends and family with her unique style. She enjoyed outdoor work raising beautiful flowers and vegetable gardens. She took pride in her canning, placing fruits and vegetables perfectly in the jars. She was especially proud of the book her sister Dorothy wrote about their life on the ranch (Light Upon the Mountain by Dorothy Wyman). She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Payette.

Her two daughters, Betty Jean White, Ontario and Bernice Jackson, Baker City, survive her,(three grandsons, three granddaughters, six great granddaughters, six great grandsons, five great-great granddaughters, and two great-great grandsons) survive her. Her sister Dorothy Wyman and husband Lynn, Lakeview, OR and many nieces and nephews (also survive her).

She is preceded in death by her parents, Stella and Robert E. Stiff, three brothers (Earl,Johnny, and Bert), four sisters (Gladys, Hazel, Florence, Anna Evelyn), a grandson, and her husband Sidney.
