Gertrude was born July 9, 1915 in Cliffs, Idaho, to Ambrose and Gertrude Maher. Gertrude graduated from Saint Teresa's and after spending time with her sister in Salt Lake and Denver, she returned "home" to Jordan Valley. She worked for the REA, Taylor Grazing Service and took flying lessons.
She married Jeff Anderson in 1943 and they ranched west of Jordan Valley. They raised good Herford cattle and ran them from just south of McDermitt, Nev. to Cliffs.
In 1967 after Jeff died, and dealing with a bank that thought women could not run ranches, Gertrude ran the ranch until her death.
Gertrude is survived by a daughter, Sharon Mikesell (Quentin); daughter-in-law, Sheryl Anderson; grandchildren, Cathy Seielstad (Carl), Debby Erwin (Wes), Shirley Hanley (Ike), Jeff Anderson, Patrick Anderson, and eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Ruby Staples and Margie Hemmert, and brother, Charles Maher (Alice).
Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband, Jeff; sons, Jeff and Jim; sisters, Mary Greenwald, Irene Foster, and Agnes Payne, and brothers, Frank Maher and George Maher.
A sincere thank you to Well Springs Assisted Living Center in Ontario and Heart and Home Hospice for their tender loving care in the last months of her life.
