Margaret Sarah Kennedy was the daughter of John & Mary Elizabeth (Forbes) Kennedy. Sadly, her mother died in 1881 from child birth complications.

Margaret was one of nine children. Her siblings were:

1. Peter, 1867-1949 IL, never married
2. Female infant
3. Male infant
4. Maud, 1871-1953 CA, m. Sam Brenn, adopted two of her brother's ch.
5. Mary, 1876-1899 IL, never married
6. Thomas, 1877-1954 IL, never married
7. Ruth, 1879-1973 CA, never married
8. James, 1881-1948 MI, m. Frieda Landgraf, five ch

Margaret's husband, John, son John and her brother Peter Forbes Kennedy are buried in the same lot in this cemetery.

She grew up on the farm lands of Marshall county where she was a teacher at the Bennington School. In 1899 Margaret went on a trip to Hawaii & Samoa. She wrote an article about the trip which appeared in The Henry Republic on 1 June.

On 25 Jun 1903, in Chicago, Margaret Sarah Kennedy married John Francis Riley. The couple had known one another for years while living in Marshall County, IL.

After marrying John & Margaret moved to Chicago where they had three children. They were:

1 Mary Ruth Riley, 1906-1985 OH, m. Harry Schlacter, they had a daughter, Dorothy.
2 Frances Genevieve Riley, 1909-1985 CA, marr. Leonard Bruch, their children were Leonard & Barbara
3. John Kennedy Riley, 1911-1942 IL, never married

After Margaret died in 1920. Her husband, John, raised their children in Chicago. He died on 1 May 1942 while living in Michigan.
