George Cleveland Agee Jr., 80, of Roanoke, died Thursday, May 17, 2001, at his home.
He was born May 12, 1921 in Woolwine, a son of the late George Cleveland Agee Sr. and Eula Hylton Agee.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, John Garland Agee, and a sister, Shirley Haley.
He attended Ferrum College before enlisting in the Army Air Corps in September, 1942. As a member of the Eighth Air Force, 389th Bomber Group, 565th Squadron, he served as crew chief of a B-24 Liberator. On April 1, 1944, his plane was shot down over France after a bombing mission over Frankfurt, Germany. He was captured in France and remained a prisoner of war at the Stalag XVII B prison camp in Krems, Austria, until liberated in May, 1945.He married Eva Baliles in June 1945.
He received a B.A. in accounting from Virginia Southern College and practiced as a certified public accountant in western Virginia for 35 years before retiring as managing partner of the CPA firm of Brown, Edwards & Co.Surviving are his wife, Eva Baliles Agee; three sons and daughters-in-law, Judge G. Steven Agee and Nancy, Philip L. Agee and Anna, and Andrew B. Agee and Gini; one daughter and son-in-law, Carole M. Agee and John F. Langhammer; and seven grandchildren, Zachary S. Agee, Ellen V. Agee, Anne Baliles Agee, Andrew W. Ross, Traci A. Dooley, A. Leanann Agee and Petty Officer Ronnie H. Agee (USN).

Funeral services were held Sunday at Oak Grove Church of the Brethren in Roanoke. Burial was Monday at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem. Memorial contributions may be made to Oak Grove Church of the Brethren, Bridgewater College or to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation.
