Daughter of Agnes Louise (Rock) and Frank Goodspeed Holmes. Ex-wife of (1st) William Charles Edwin Bailey and (2nd) Carlo John Simonelli. Gertrude later resumed her maiden name of (Holmes).

Gertrude Agnes Holmes, 87, passed away Friday, Sept. 1, 2006, in Copley Manor in Morrisville. She was born in Everett, Massachusetts, on Dec. 24, 1918, the daughter of Frank and Agnes (Rock) Holmes. Gertrude attended school in Everett prior to her family's moving to Morrisville, where she completed her education at Peoples Academy. She was married to William Bailey of Stowe and they had two daughters, Elaine and Audrey Bailey. Moving to Hartford, Connecticut, Gertrude worked for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft for several years before returning to Stowe, completing her working career at the Lodge, Alpine and Yodler Inns, retiring in 1982. After retirement, Gertrude enjoyed her family, going for long rides, visiting family and friends, especially enjoying her grandchildren. Gertrude was known for her good humor and was always there to help anyone in need. Gertrude is survived by her daughter, Audrey and her husband, Garth Bailey of Morrisville; her grandchildren, Robert Bailey and friend, Susan Cochran of Morrisville, Donna Maxam and friend, Robert Burbank of Stowe, and Gregory Hill and his wife, Kyley (Osgood) of Johnson; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Gertrude was predeceased by her daughter, Elaine Agnes Bailey
of Stowe in 1938; her father, Frank, in 1965; her mother, Agnes in 1968; a brother, Edward F. Holmes in 1964 and his wife, "Patsy" of Barre; her sisters Ethel Barbour of Stowe in 1984 and Eleanor Jewett of Stowe in 1993. Respecting Gertrude's wishes, graveside funeral services will be held Thursday, at 3 p.m., in the Riverbank Cemetery, Stowe. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Gertrude's memory would be appreciated to the Activities Fund at Copley Manor, 577 Washington Highway, Morrisville, Vermont 05661. Arrangements are by the White-Fiess Funeral Home, Morrisville.
