Obituary from the "Daily Journal" of Stevens Point, Wisconsin dated 9 Mar 1957:
Mrs. Ida Malissa Altenburg, 85, who lived almost all of her life in the Town of Plover, died at St. Michael's Hospital at 8:00 a.m. today. She was ill for the past four years and entered the hospital as a patient five weeks ago.
Born Ida Malissa Langton in the Town of Plover on June 25, 1871, she attended the Maine School in that township and was married at the Plover Methodist Church on Jan. 19, 1890, to Frank Altenburg. They farmed in the Town of Plover until Mr. Altenburg retired in 1945. Mr. Altenburg died in 1951.
Mrs. Altenburg spent all of her life in the Town of Plover with the exception of a three-year period of residence at Stevens Point. She was a member of the Plover Methodist Church and a past oracle of the Plover camp of the Royal Neighbors of America.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Harry Calkins, Plover, and Mrs. Clarence Emmes, Wisconsin Rapids, and one son, Kenneth Altenburg, Plover. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter Beulah, four brothers and a sister.
The body is at the Moore Funeral Home, where friends may call after 2 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home and burial will be made in the spring in the Plover Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established at the Plover Methodist Church for Mrs. Altenburg and the family has requested that contributions be made to the fund in lieu of flowers.
