Mrs. Ellen Downing Dies at the Age of 81
Mrs. Ellen Lane Downing, 81 years old, a pioneer resident of Newkirk, who had made her home here for 6 years with her son, Dr. C. M. Downing, east of the city, died late Monday afternoon at the Downing residence. She had been critically ill since April and had been in poor health for a year. Mrs. Downing was a native of Wisconsin. Mr. Downing died October 28, 1927. Mrs. Downing was a member of the Methodist Church.
Surviving are three sons, Dr. Downing, F. E. Downing, of north Arkansas City and Orie L. Downing, Newkirk: twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren and a brother, Lyman Lane, of Minnesota. Two grandchildren, Mrs. J. Rex Ogborn and Mrs. F. B. Roberson, live in this city.
Funeral services are to be held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon in the Grant Funeral Home. The Rev. Otto F Volkland will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Cemetery, nine miles northwest of Winfield, where Mr. Downing is buried.
