Dr. Roderick C. Pruett of Foster City, California passed away at his home March 25, 2003. Born in Lubbock, Texas, October 9, 1952, he was the son of Holice C. & Carolyn R. Pruett of Pagosa Springs, CO and Fredericksburg, Texas. He is survived by his parents, a sister, Barbara P. Vann of Fort Worth, Texas, her husband, John Rush Vann, Jr., their two sons, John Rush Vann III, & Stuart R. Vann, and his brother-in-law Richard A. Luttrell, of Austin, Texas, and Richard's son & wife, Eric & Kelly Luttrell of Houston, Texas and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his sister Janice P. Luttrell, October 1, 1999. Roderick grew up in Dallas, Texas, where he graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1970. He received his BS & MS degrees in Electrical Engineering from Rice University, Houston, Texas. He received his PhD in Bioengineering, in the Electrical Engineering Department of Rice University in 1979. He worked thirteen years in Dallas in the Research & Development Department of Atlantic Richfield Company. The remainder of his career was in the field of Artificial Intelligence with companies in Silicon Valley, California. One of his most significant contributions was his participation in the development of the credit card fraud protection program for Visa. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM, March 29, at the Crystal Springs United Methodist Church, 2145 Bunker Hill Dr., San Mateo, CA. Following interment at Restland Cemetery, Dallas, Texas, a memorial service will be held at Central Christian Church, 470 Westside Drive, Dallas, Texas at 11:00 AM, March 31. Visitation will be held today from 4 to 9 pm at O'Connell's Chapel, 1311 S. El Camino Real, San Mateo.
