A sad and fatal accident occurred at the junction of the Great Western and the St. Louis, Alton and Chicago railroads, Friday evening last. As Mr. John W. Alexander, a soldier belonging to company C, 113th regiment of Illinois volunteers, was attempting to get upon the cars, while the train was in motion, his foot slipped and falling upon the track, was run over. He was brought to the city the same evening, on a hand car, and left at the Matteson House, but he died on Saturday morning about 10 o'clock. He was about 30 years of age, and leaves a wife, who resides at Clintonville, Kane county, in this State. Mr. Alexander has been stationed for some time past at Camp Butler, and we learn has sustained a good character in his regiment.
