Cora was born on a farm just outside of Vienna, Ontario about a week after her father was killed in a logging accident in 1876. She married Hugh Burgar on May 2 1893 in Windsor, Ontario.
Her mother (Eliza Ann Appleton-Rowe) remained on the Rowe farm after her husband died, and ended up marrying Fred Burgar, (father of Hugh) on March 12, 1896. They knew each other well as widowed neighbors struggling to raise their families.
Cora and Hugh, had 3 children (Urith, who m Roy Minter, Russell who was killed in Ypres in 1916, and baby Hiram who m Mae Tuck) before the Burgar family decided to journey to Alberta.
They settled first in Wetaskiwin, where they had 2 more children, namely Levingston, who died at 25 years of age, and Doris, who m Clarence Langford. However after their hardware store burned to the ground, they decided to move to Edmonton.
After living in Edmonton, and Hugh driving a streetcar for several years, they decided that they would retire in British Columbia.
They lived in New Westminster, where Hugh died Febrary 22, 1941.Cora was diagnosed with breast cancer in the 1950s, and had a mastectomy. She lived many years and she was a great traveller. Truly she was a survivor!
After Hughs death, Cora decided that her daughter needed some help, Doris' son Ray was crippled from birth, so was unable to get around. So she and Cal and Doris pooled their assets and bought an expensive big house with an elevator, at 303 Queens Avenue. Cora lived with their family until her death.
That home was later bought by Randy Bachman, who removed the stained glass windows and took them away.See a picture of house on daughter Doris Langfords memorial.
