Frank did a couple of short terms in the Montana State Prison. He later made up for his bad behavior. At the start of WWI he went and joined the French Foreign Legion. The French awarded him the Croix de Guerre for rescuing 3 men. After his Foreign Legion time he joined the Indiana PVT CO A Engineers 3 DIV.
On April 1 1919, he married Linnie B. Gee. She was previously married to Charles Peyton and they had 3 sons Hugh, Monte and Dewitt Peyton.
