...gently they go,
the beautiful,
the tender,
the kind...
I know.
But I do not approve.
I am not resigned...
~ by Edna St. Vincent Millay

Thelma, you and mommie went so gently, so softly you both did leave this world, you closed your eyes and simply eased from the room. I loveyou my dear, dear friend.

*´¯`•.¸¸. ♥

I wonder sometimes why people like you were brought into my life then taken away only to leave the pain of losing you. But then knowing you enriched my life, you made a difference in my world, your love left me a better person, my soul the richer for having known you. My heart was left hurt and grieving but happier still and so blessed by your friendship. ♥

I met Thelma almost two years ago. Mommie became a resident in the elder care facility where Thelma lived.
Thelma was a quiet, gentle lady. Yes, she was a lady, in every way.
My sister and I saw her as often as we saw mommie, almost every evening.
She came to be like family to us. Thelma always asked us to leave the curtain between their beds open. I think she felt more a part of us when we visited.
Her concern was always if her TV might be too loud or if we wanted to watch another show. Always so concerned with what we wanted or what might bother mommie.
Mommie was diagnosed with dementia and it didn't take a lot to upset her but in all the months she and Thelma were roommates, Thelma being just there across the room never bothered her at all.
If one was not feeling well the other would always ask my sister or me how the other was doing. They were perfect for each other. Not into the other's business but there, caring about the other and what was going on in their world.
Her and I loved to watch Wheel of Fortune together in the evenings after I'd get off work and stop for my evening visit. Mommie would usually doze off and Thelma and I would share the evening watching TV or talking.
She'd always share her candy and little cakes with us as we did with her.
Her favorite snack was cheese and crackers. And oh, how she loved her peanut butter. Her and I often laughed over the fact that both of us ate our peanut butter straight from the jar. We decided that there wasn't a thing wrong with that, it was our peanut butter and no one else should be dipping into that jar anyway. ~:}
My sister found out that Thelma loved onion rings. She'd bring mommie an Arby's roast beef sandwich and go by Sonic and get Thelma an order of onion rings.
We'd go into the room and two sets of eyes would light up.
Thelma would always eat two or three rings then say she'd save the rest for later. In a few minutes we'd hear the paper rustling and there'd she be with a big ole grin on her face as she dug out another onion ring and started to munch on it. She'd finish off the order before we left.
Amazing how something so small can warm a heart. The memories of those golden hours will warm my heart and soul for the rest of my life.
