Harry was born July 30, 1929, in Oceana, W.Va., a son of the late Jeff Amburgey (1892-1979) and Annie "Laura" Griffith-Amburgey (1897-1976).
Harry was of the Baptist faith and a former member of the Oceana Volunteer Fire Department. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, a member of the Disabled American Veterans. Harry worked on track maintenance for the Virginian, N & W and Norfolk Southern Railways. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wives, Norma "Jean" Brinkley-Amburgey (1933-1991) whom he married on June 2, 1956 in Hatcher, Wyoming County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, Wyoming County, WV, 1956, Page 219, Application Date: May 30, 1956), & Wanda Valoris Wood-Amburgey (1935-2007); a daughter, Lisa Ann Amburgey (1966-1966); a grandson, Thomas Lee Amburgey (1979-1979); four brothers, James L. Amburgey (1924-2000), Jimmy Amburgey (1938-2002), William "Roy" Amburgey (1927-2007) and Posey Edward Amburgey (1920-1945); and four sisters, Letha Amburgey-Gregory (Deceased), Garnette Amburgey-Ward-Faulkner (1922-Deceased), Dimple Bell Amburgey-Maynor (1932-2004) and Mary Ellen Amburgey (Deceased).
Survivors include a son, Doyle Edward Amburgey and companion Beth Morehead of Princeton, W.Va.; a daughter, Charlotte Jean Amburgey-Adams and husband Steve of Oceana, W.Va.; a brother, Charles "Ike" Edward Amburgey (1940-2011) of Logan, W.Va.; three grandchildren, Michael (Sabrina) Adams of Oceana, W.Va., Tabitha Toler of Oceana, W.Va., and Amber (Lawrence) Cook of Kopperston, W.Va.; six great-grandchildren, Hunter and Alyssa Adams, Paige Amburgey, Chesley Adkins, Reese and Blake Cook; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other loving family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 27, 2010, in the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, W.Va., with Rev. William Cook and Rev. Randy Bowles officiating. Harry will be laid to rest in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny, W.Va., with the Wyoming County Honor Guard conducting military rites.
