Born Sept. 5, 1910, at McChestneytown, Pa., he was a son of the late John E. and Martha Louise Cairns Evans.
Mr. Evans was a resident of Wyoming County since 1923, had worked as a clerk in the Raleigh-Wyoming Mining Company Store at Glen Rogers, had worked in the coal mines since 1934 to 1976 having been employed at the Glen Rogers mine and Eastern Associated Coal Corp. He was a member of Kopperston Local Union 7604, and the Pineville Masonic Lodge 138. He received his 50 year pin from the masons on March 11, 1982. He was a member of the Toneda Missionary Baptist Church in Oceana since 1944 where he had served as usher, deacon, Sunday School superintendent, Sunday School teacher and vice moderator.
Mr. Evans was preceded in death by a brother, Enos Evans, and a sister, Louise Allen.
Survivors include his wife, Edna V. Evans and a son, Larry K. Evans of Ona.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the Toneda Baptist Church with the Rev. Ron Lee officiating. Burial will be in the Palm Memorial Gardens at Matheny.
Friends may call today from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Evans and Evans Funeral Directors in Oceana and at the church one hour prior to services.
Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
