FANROCK — Mavis Blankenship, 78, of Fanrock, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007, at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital following a long illness.

Born Dec. 18, 1928, in Mingo County, she was the daughter of the late Oley Cook (Deceased) and Goldie Davidson-Cook (Deceased).

Mrs. Blankenship was a member of Clear Fork Independent Church of God. She enjoyed cooking, taking care of her family, raising and working in her garden and being with her family and friends.

In addition to her parents, a son, Alfred Blankenship Jr. (Deceased), and two brothers, Norris Cook (Deceased) and Norwood Cook (Deceased), preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband, Alfred Blankenship Sr.; a son, Johnnie Mack Blankenship and his wife, Cathy, of Pineville; a daughter, Vannis Joy Blankenship (1956-2011) at home; two sisters, Jean Cook-Conley of Oceana and June Cook-Smith of Inez, Ky.; and two grandchildren, Johnny Blankenship Jr. and Jeffrey Lee Blankenship.

Service will be 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, at Evans Memorial Chapel, Oceana, with the Rev. Junior Blankenship officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.
