CLEAR FORK - Betty Lou Knight-Compton-Blankenship, 77, went peacefully home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Dec. 27, 2007, at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley surrounded by her family following a long illness.

Mrs. Blankenship was born April 20, 1930, at Moundsville. Mrs. Blankenship was a member of First Church of God, Oceana. She was loved by all who knew her and she will be dearly missed.

She was preceded in death by her late husband, Filbert B. Compton (1918-1981), whom she married on September 16, 1952 in New Martinsburg, Wetzel County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, Wetzel County, WV, 1952, Page 93, Application Date: September 13, 1952); and her parents, William H. Knight (Deceased) & Margaret Knight (Deceased).

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, King Edward Blankenship (1922-2009) of Clearfork; three daughters, Cheryl Compton-Dixon and husband, Dale, of Beckley, Bonnie Compton-Rasnake and her companion, Bill Lugar, of Gap Mills and Darlene Compton-Sook and her husband, Glen, of Looneyville; five grandchildren, Melissa Walker and her husband, Steve, of Goode, Va., Hollie Delong and her husband, Tony, of Kopperston, Valerie Sayre and her husband, Chris, of Looneyville and Kris and Eddie Dixon of Beckley; six great-grandchildren; four stepchildren, Phyllis Blankenship-Boyd and her husband, Randall of Hernshaw, Delores Blankenship of Fla., Gary Blankenship and his wife, Diana of Pineville and Debra Blankenship-Jeffery and her husband, Roger of Fla.; seven stepgrandchildren; 11 stepgreat-grandchildren; and a host of friends.

A celebration of Mrs. Blankenship's life will be 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 31, 2007 at Adam Toler Memorial Chapel, Oceana, with the Rev. William Wagner officiating. She will be laid to rest at Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.
