Bill was born on Aug. 14, 1924, to William E. and Frances Gramley in Aurora, Ill. He was raised on a farm near Plano, Ill. Bill served in the U.S. Army Air Forces in World War II as a B-25 Bomber pilot in the 83rd Bomber Squadron, flying 62 combat missions in the China-Burma-India Theater. After the war, he continued his education at the University of Illinois, where he earned his B.A. degree in Architectural Engineering. On Nov. 26, 1949, Bill married Tweeza Gilpatrick in Plano, Ill.
The majority of Bill's working career was as a partner with the architectural firm of Phillips, Swager & Associates in Peoria, Ill., and Dallas, Texas.
After his retirement in 1988, Bill's hobbies included woodworking projects and water color painting. He always enjoyed traveling and spending time with family.
Bill is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary Louise "Tweeza" (Gilpatrick) Gramley; his children, Lori (Larry) Hartsook of Clive, Iowa, Sandra (Dee Dee Kitchen) Gramley of San Diego, Calif., and Ken (Gretta) Gramley of Westfield, Ind.; his grandchildren, Michael Gramley, Ken Hartsook, Elizabeth Gramley, Mark Hartsook and Danielle Butler; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Wendell Gramley and June Schumacher.
Private placement of the cremated remains will be in the United Presbyterian Church Columbarium in Peoria, Ill.
