Rose "Rosie" L. (Cummings) Fitzgerald, 87, of East Hartford, passed away at home on Wednesday, (May 16, 2007). Her beloved husband, Kenneth A. Fitzgerald, passed away in 1986 after their marriage of 43 years. Rose was born in Norwichtown on February 2, 1920, the daughter of the late William L. and Rose (Marra) Cummings. She started her business career in 1938 as Medical Secretary to Dr. John Gallivan in the Medical Department of Pratt & Whitney. All new employees were processed through Rose and Dr. John Gallivan, Medical Director. Rose and her husband were married on March 3, 1943 on Ken's first leave from the Air Force. In 1945, Rose and her husband moved to Long Island, New York, after his discharge from the Air Force at the end of World War II. They were both employed in New York City. Rose was employed at American Can's Head Office for about two years, and then was offered a position at Commercial Solvents, where she worked both in the Personnel Department and for the Chairman of the Board. Rose and Ken returned to Hartford in 1952. Rose then went to work for the Trust Department of The Connecticut Bank and Trust Company, which at the present time is the Bank of America. She retired as an Administrative Assistant after 43 years of employment. She desperately missed her position after retirement. Rose loved animals and classic cars, especially her turquoise 1962 Ford Galaxy XL 500 convertible, which was in many Memorial Day Parades. She enjoyed going to Hampton Beach, New Hampshire, where the family owns ocean-front property. Rose was known for her sense of humor and love of dancing. She really enjoyed the music and dancing at the VFW Post #2083 in East Hartford, where she made many friends. Rose is survived by her very dear sister, Dorothy C. Moreau, and two nieces and their husbands, Susan and Lee Olson of Coventry, and Elaine and Joseph Carey of East Hartford and their children, Johanna Carey-Lang, Joseph, Alanna and Charlton Carey, and several great, great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her very dear brother-in-law, Ernest "Pete" Moreau, and by a very much loved and missed nephew, Lester "Les" Moreau. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to gather at the Glastonbury Funeral Home, 450 New London Tnpk., Glastonbury, on Monday, May 21, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. for the procession to St. Paul's Church, 2577 Main St., Glastonbury, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. The interment service will follow in the Veterans Field of the Hillside Cemetery, East Hartford.
