John Marshall Shute, 79, of 503 Winsor St., formerly of 136 Willow Ave., died at 12:29 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 11, 2004) in the WCA Hospital. A Jamestown-area resident since 1974, he was born May 24, 1925, in Springfield, Mass., the son of Eben M. and Anna Crosby Shute. He was a graduate of Springfield High School and Trinity College in Hartford, Conn., with a bachelor's degree in chemistry. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Marine Corp. during World War II as a corporal in the 3rd Marine Division Airwing from Aug. 7, 1943, until his discharge on July 13, 1946. He was a metallurgist for Blackstone Corp. from 1974 until his retirement in 1983. He was past commander, served on the firing squad and chairman of Voice of Democracy for 16 years with John W. Tiffany Post 53 VFW. Formerly he was a member of Mt. Moriah Masonic Lodge 145 F&AM, Jamestown Consistory, Moose Lodge, Eagles Lodge and Henry Mosher Post 638 American Legion, Falconer. He was a private pilot and delighted in nurturing plants, especially loved growing roses and was proud to share his roses with family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Alberta M. Hall Shute, whom he married March 11, 1983; two daughters Valerie Borgeson and Barbara Shute, both of Coventry, Conn.; a son, Stephen Shute of Amston, Conn.; two granddaughters: Ashley and Allison Borgeson, both of Coventry; two step-daughters, Marie A. Sheffield of Jamestown and Tina L. Trusso of Falconer; two step-sons Alan F. Alaimo of Framingham, Calif., and David A. Alaimo of Perris, Calif.; nine step-grandchildren: one step-great-granddaughter; and a brother Ben Shute of Granby, Mass. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Laura Krause; and three brothers: Robert M., Paul D. and Walter R. Shute. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.
