Philbrook was a vet of the American Revolution and the War of 1812. In 1840 census he listed himself as a pvt. in Rev. In 1801 when his wife Selinda died he was a Lieutenant. Selinda is sometimes spelled Cylinda not to be confused with his sister Lucinda.
Parents were: John b. 7-8-1707 d.10-1774 and Priscilla Philbrook 1717 in Maine d. 2-27-1801
