Always called "Doc" from his being the son of a physician. Well-known race car driver, winning many races. First cousin of George W. MacKenzie, also a race driver and also known as "Doc."

This Doc MacKenzie was the better known of the two, having raced in 5 straight Indianapolis 500s and had finished in third place the year that he died. Holder of numerous track records across the United States, including one set the day before his death.

Married Verna T. Mather a month before his death in a racing accident at the Wisconsin State Fairgrounds.
