Dear Officers, Members and Friends of Navy League:

After a two-year battle with cancer, our friend and former Council President, Captain David Brumley, passed away this morning, Monday, March 12, 2007.

While his major roles in life were as a loving husband and father, David continued to help our Council after his 2005 Presidency. As an officer on our Executive Committee, David was involved with our youth programs while serving our country as a reserve officer in the United States Navy. He was particularly proud of his active service immediately following the devastating tsunami that hit parts of Indonesia and the promotion to Captain that followed.

We will miss this young man, military officer, father, Navy League member and friend.

Services are planned at Mt. Tahoma National Cemetery on Friday, March 23, 2007.

We wish you fair winds, David, and following seas.

William C. Larson, President

Seattle Council, Navy League of the United States

David A. Brumley has been appointed to the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. He is the son of PMTC's David F. Brumley, Head of the Software Design and Analysis Branch in the Systems Evaluation Directorate.

While other high school seniors are looking forward to their summer vacation, Brumley reports July 8 to begin his Plebe summer of physical training. "I'm really looking forward to this experience, although I know it will be difficult," he remarks.

When the strenuous summer is completed, Brumley will begin classes in Engineering in August. Debating whether to major in Aeronautical or Aerospace Engineering, he definitely knows that he wants to become a Naval aviator. "I've been to Air Shows since I can remember," he says. "I've always wanted to fly the aircraft myself."

Brumley's congressional appointment was made by the Honorable Barry Goldwater, Jr. In considering his decision to accept the offer at Annapolis, Brumley noted that several of the great men in the past started their careers as Midshipmen at the Naval Academy. World War II leaders Admirals Chester Nimitz and William "Bull" Halsey; Admiral Hyman Rickover, the world's foremost expert in nuclear propulsion; and Alan Shepard, the first American in space; all graduated from the Academy.

Although the curriculum is very demanding, Brumley isn't worried. His grade point average at Rio Mesa High School is 3.94. "I'm ready for the Academy," he reflects.

Brumley has a younger brother, Thom, and sister, Lisa. He is the first in his family to attend the Naval Academy.
