Capt Arthur Leroy Davis, Vietnam Veteran, Native of Beaufort, NC.

Captain Arthur Leroy Davis was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army Reserve, CPT Davis served our country until May 13th, 1968 in Tay Ninh, South Vietnam. He was 24 years old and was married. It was reported that Arthur died from small arms fire or grenade. His body was recovered. CPT Davis is on panel 59E, line 020 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for 3 years.

Capt Arthur Leroy Davis, 24, United States Army, died last Monday in Vietnam as a result of a gunshot wound received while at a Signal Site when engaging hostile forces in a fire fight. Captain Davis's family received the news Wednesday, when an Army Chaplain called at their home. Capt Davis, 509 Live Oak Street, Beaufort, was a member of the 587th Army Signal Company. He was stationed in the vicinity of Tay Ninh, Vietnam. He is a graduate of Queen Street High School where he played basketball, and North Carolina Agricultural and Technical College, Greensboro, where he majored in Economics and was a member of Alpha Phi Alpa social fraternity. He had served a two year tour of duty in Germany prior to leaving for his first tour in Vietnam Feb 5th of this year. Capt Davis is survied by his wife, Ethel, one daughter, Audre, one year old, his parents, Mr and Mrs Herbert Davis, Beaufort. Two brothers, Herbert Jr, and William, both of Beaufort, and one sister, Mrs James Wright, Winton, NC.

Capt Arthur Leroy Davis's funeral service wil be Thursday at 2pm at the Mt Zion Baptist Missionary Baptist Church, Beaufort, NC. The Reverend N.K.Dun will officiate. Burial will be in Oceanview Cemetery, Beaufort. The funeral will be a Military Service.

He was the Son of Mr and Mrs Herbert Davis, Husband of Mrs Ethel Davis, Father of Audre, 509 Live Oak Street, Beaufort, NC.

He was TDY from the 125th Signal Battalion, serving with the 587th Signal Company, 86th Battalion, 2nd Signal Group, 1st Signal Brigade, USARV.

He was awarded The Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious Service, The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
