Patricia M. Behm died Friday, July 3, 2009, at the Illinois Knights Templar Home in Paxton following a 2½ year battle with pulmonary fibrosis.

She was born Dec. 11, 1934, to Roy and Marjorie Brinkman of Ashkum. She attended Ashkum and Ash-Clif Central High School, graduating in 1952. She graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in 1955.

On June 25, 1955, she married Derry Behm and had four children. Debra (Rick) Winkel of Urbana, Denise (Lloyd) Rattigan of Kenosha, Wis., Derry (Skip) (Melissa) Behm Jr. of St. Charles and David (Julie) Behm of Philo. Besides her husband and four children, she is survived by 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, the youngest of whom was born June 25, the 54th wedding anniversary of Pat and Derry.

Pat worked as a nurse at Brokaw Hospital in Normal and the Methodist Hospital in Peoria. After moving to Georgetown in 1964, she worked 20 years as a teacher's aide in the Georgetown school district.

Pat was known as an avid sports fan (the Cubs). At Georgetown she had an unofficial seat in the bleachers for the football and basketball games. At a summer league basketball game, they were one official short and the lone official offered Pat a striped shirt, telling her she had been helping him for years.

Upon retiring in 1990, Pat and Derry moved back to the Central school area at Timberlawn. They became fixtures at home football games, again having an unofficial seat at the top of the bleachers just below the press box. In the spring, Pat was a fixture at the finish line, serving as recorder for the Central and Nash home track meets.

Upon buying the family cottage in 1989, Pat spearheaded the John and Belle Behm family reunion for 17 years until her health prevented her from continuing. Her family and extended family will miss her, but feel richer for having her be part of their lives.

Visitation will be Tuesday, July 7, from 4-8 p.m. at Knapp Funeral Home in Clifton. Funeral services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 8, at Zion Lutheran Church in Ashkum. Internment will follow at the Ashkum Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Central High School Foundation, the Ashkum Methodist Church or the Iroquois Memorial Hospice.
