DAVID ANDRUS DEAD.

David Andrus, nearly n life long resident of Perry, a well known business man and lumber dealer, died just before noon today, aged 83 years and nine months.

On account of a failure to locate Ray, his son, who is on a trip to the coast, it is impossible to state when the funeral will be held.

A complete obituary will be given in our Tuesday edition.

Obituary

ANDRUS.

Mr. David Andrus who died Friday morning at the family residence on Center St., was born at Shaftsbury, Vt., on Oct. 10th. 1825.

He was the second son of David Andrus and Mary Parks and emigrated to the state of New York with his parents when 11 years of age and settled on the west side of the lake where he grew to manhood and finally started out to seek his fortune. He went to California and Mexico by way of the Isthmus in 1849 where he spent three years in a mining camp when success crowned his efforts and he returned to buy a valuable farm on the north side of Silver Lake. He was joined in marriage on Jan. 19th, 1854 to Miss Harriett A. Palmer. Four sons were born to them. William Palmer Andrus of Perry. Charles A. of Saginaw. Mich., David S. of Castile and D. Ray Andrus of Perry. His wife died on June 2nd, 1865, when on Oct. 17th. 1866, he was married to Martha Jane Palmer sister of his first wife. He with his family returned to Perry village in 1867 where he lived until his death.

Deceased was always prominent in civic affairs. He was enthusiastic in the growth and welfare of the village, he served as town assessor for several years, was a trustee when the new school house was built. He was for many years a member of the firm of Read & Andrus, since Mr. Read retired the business has been conducted in his name until his death. He has been active and at his place of business every day until about three weeks ago.

Mr. Andrus was one of those men who sweeten and enrich the life of a community for from his entrance into business, until the day of his death his manner was a synonym for right living and kindly deeds, gentle, never obtrusive but always in his place. Mr. Andrus made integrity beautiful and righteousness contagious.

He had a host of friends for to know such a man was to love him. Honors were his, but it may be suspected that none of them were so dear to him as the trust and confidence of those who knew him best.

The funeral was held Monday afternoon at 3.30 o'clock from his late home conducted by the Rev. H. A. Waite, pastor of the First Baptist Church of which he was a member. The remains will be placed in the city vault until the arrival of his youngest son who was at the time of his father's death traveling through the far west, Vancouver, on his way home.

David Andrus, one of the oldest and most highly respected citizens of Perry, died at his home in that village Friday morning, aged 83 years. Mr. Andrus was the son of David Andrus and Mary Parks, who lived at Shaftsbury, Vt., where he was born on October 10, 1825. At the age of 11 he moved to New York state with his parents and located on a farm known as the Andrus farm on the west side of Silver lake.

DAVID ANDRUS DEAD.

He was an Honored Citizen and Nearly a Life Long Resident of Perry.

David Andrus, one of Perry's most prominent and best known citizens, died at his home on Center street in that village Friday, July 9th. Mr. Andrus was born at Shaftsbury, Vt, on October 10, 1825. At the age of 11 he came with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. David Andrus, to New York state and settled on a farm on the west side of Silver Lake in this town.

At the time of the gold mining fever of 1849, he went to California, crossing the Isthmus of Panama. After three years of successful mining he returned to his home and took up farming. Later he purchased his farm, where he lived after his marriage to Harriet A. Palmer on January 19,1854. In 1865 she died and he was again married in 1866 to Mary Jane Palmer her sister.

Shortly after his second marriage he moved to Perry village and occupied the home where he died. During the early part of his life spent in Perry, he held many offices of importance. For many years he was assessor for the town and also trustee of the district at the time the Perry Academy was built. The greater part of his business since living at Perry has been running a large saw mill and lumber retail business. He had been active in the business until about three weeks ago, when he was first confined to the house, death finally being hastened by heart failure.

He is survived by his wife, Mary J. Andrus and four sons, William B. Andrus of Perry, Charles A. Andrus, of Saginaw, Mich.; Daniel S. Andrus of Castile and D. Ray Andrus of Perry.

The funeral was held from the home Monday afternoon and was largely attended. The floral offerings were many and beautiful, many being sent from a distance.
