Jack Bowen served as Sheriff of LaGrange County, Indiana for eight years. Previously, he had been a Sergeant First Class in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

His parents were in LaGrange, LaGrange County, Indiana, when the census was taken in April 1930. His father (J.T.) was 31, born in Indiana, and was a salesman with a gas and oil company. His mother (Marguerite) was 27, born in Indiana.

Jack's mother was the daughter of Roscoe "Ross" Conklin ROWE (1881-1959) and his wife Orta B. (1882-1956), both born in Indiana.

He was born Dec. 24, 1930, in Sturgis, a son of J.T. and Marguerite G. (ROWE) BOWEN.

On Feb. 20, 1954, he married Amorita J. WEAVER, in LaGrange.

He was a lifelong LaGrange resident. He was a former employee of United Telephone Company, a former LaGrange County deputy sheriff from 1960-62, the LaGrange County Sheriff from 1962-70, the first manager of the LaGrange County Landfill which opened in 1971, a former employee of the Wible Lumber Company, South Milford, and a former security guard at Gerring Industries, Shipshewana, and Howe Military School.

He was a member of the LaGrange American Legion Post 215, the LaGrange Moose Lodge 1315, the Sturgis Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the LaGrange First United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict.

Surviving are his wife, one daughter, three sons, five grandchildren, his mother, and three sisters, and one brother.

He was preceded in death by his father July 24, 1968; his twin brother, Jean BOWEN; and one grandson.
