She was preceded in death by her husband Zachariah Hilton McCubbins, a veteran of the Civil War, who many will remember as one of the enterprising business men in Perry's early history. Mrs. McCubbins, who was born in Kentucky, raised and educated in Illinois, married Zachariah McCubbins November 12, 1850 in Jasper County, Illinois. Of this union there were 4 children, two sons Churchill Hilton and Pearlye (who died at age 7 by a kick of a horse); two daughters, Callie and Orillia. Some thirty years ago she joined the United Brethren Church in Illinois, but later became identified with the First Methodist Episcopal and was active and faithful member. She lead a quiet life, subsequently, it was only those who were intimately associated with her in everyday life who knew her best. Her many deeds of kindness and charity and Christian fortitude, the outgrowth of an affection of thirty years standing. Her hand was ever ready to help the needy and she was a true and staunch fried to the downtrodden and sorrowing in hearts who will not soon cease to miss her. Mrs. McCubbins, who had been ill for a long time, was spending the winter with her daughter, Mrs. Orilla Hayes, of Bentonville. Arkansas; where she passed away on Friday, March 27th, 1908. Her body was laid to rest in Grace Hill Cemetery beside her husband. The pall bearers were selected from the Grand Army of the Republic and the Wilderness Brigade members.
