Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 30 at the Big Pine Cemetery for Lone Pine Native Joe T. Bright, Jr. Friends and family are invited to attend the service and share their special stories for Joe's life. Born in Lone Pine on Dec. 6, 1937, Joe died at the Bishop Care Center on May 22, 2009. Joe was a life-long resident of Inyo County with many interests, including the history of mining in the area. He lived his early years at the Reward Mine near Lone Pine, where his father and other family members earned their living. He spent much of his time wandering the deserts, prospecting and enjoying everything this area has to offer.
Joe inherited a love for machine work and machines from his grandfather, "Skeet" Smith, and he worked the majority of his life in that field. Joe volunteered for the U.S. Army toward the end of the Korean War and ended his service in Germany. He is survived by his two sons, Dan Bright of Bishop and John Bright of Big Pine; brother, Rod Bright of Rock Springs, Wyo.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
